ROBOTICS AND Coding Games with Java
+ ENGLISH CAMP
Stay at a prestigious English private school and get the best of both coding and English camps. While learning English students will learn to build an original video game with Java during one week of camp and design, build and programme their very own robot with VEX IQ robotics and ROBOTC language in the other week. As a break from coding and a chance to explore, they'll also enjoy 3 excursions including a trip to London. Student's need to bring their own laptop.
Coding Games with java
In one of their two weeks, and during one half of each day, students learn the Java programming language by building an original video game. We use the Greenfoot tool to facilitate building and de-bugging programmes, providing immediate visual feedback as students explore object-oriented programming. During the first part of the course, students work with expert Fire Tech instructors to master key computing concepts as they build a model game. In the last half of the course they are coached and supported as they create their own original game.
In the other week of their camp, during one half of each day, students get to grips with engineering and coding by mastering robotic builds with Fire Tech. Designing and building their robots using competition-grade VEX IQ kits, students then programme them in the RobotC language. Fire Tech provide all the kit for use during the course, including laptops licensed to use RobotC. Students work in teams of two and put their robots to the test in friendly competitions to see whose build can perform best in range of challenges. There's a maximum of 8 students per class and students get to take home a certificate with personal tutor feedback as well as a Fire Tech t-shirt.
In the other half of each day, students take part in English language lessons provided by our professional English teachers. Based on the CLIL model of language learning used in schools worldwide, lessons focus on conversational English, active participation and project work. Teachers use tech themes during class where students will learn about keywords in tech, as well as exploring tech-related topics such as innovation and marketing. An entry test groups students by age and ability at the start of the week and with a maximum of 12 students per class, they get lots of individual feedback. Everyone leaves with a written report and an English certificate to take home.
